ROSE

Found a photo of my Great Aunt Rose as previously mentioned here.

A THOUSAND MILES FROM NOWHERE

Hey Ya'll.

I just got back from a trip to Austin where my sister Mollie and I celebrated her birthday all weekend long!
Try it! We did it up in true Texas style and fit in all kinds of boot scootin'. I can't say I know anything about current country music, but the highlight of the trip was Stubb's BBQ where we honored our past with Dwight Yoakam! When Mollie and I were in Elementary School we used to walk a couple of blocks over to our Great Aunt Rose's house every day after class. Country Music Television and card games were our entertainment in the early 1990s.
Small town Kansas- Yeehaw!

Rose taught us more than we can probably even see yet. She was a true reflection that life is hard
but you are well off when you learn to let go. She held very few possessions but was the epitome
of proper indulgence. She knew just how to live it up with little. Some days simply require a Classic Coke & Whiskey and the sweet croon of a "tall-drink-A-wata" such as Mr. Yoakam to take you away...
A Thousand Miles From Nowhere  (cheesy video from 1993. Enjoy!)

Austin was a blast and sister time was much needed!

Images:
1. Little Sister (Don't You Do What Your Big Sister Done). Another Yoakam song from our youth!
2. Hibiscus
3. Photo of a photo - our Ma in 1973
4. Free live music + cheap drinks. This man was a riot if you can imagine! Dancin' fool = fun!
5. This fella's hat was adorned with tons of country legend signatures, sure to be passed on.
6. Agenda
7. Dwight in the light. You can't really tell from my photo but the band is dressed from head to toe
in sequins! Dwight has a denim jacket on with a simple stripe of sequins. I was hoping for a
Nudie Suit but they were still oh-so classy!
8. Fancy Stracam Italian slipper shoes I came across at an antique shop. They were Men's Size 10.5
so I was thinking up ways to successfully stuff those toes, no-go. So swanky.
9. Potted plants everywhere
10. Loving Graffiti

*looking for a photograph of Rose to post in the near future.
*most of these images were also posted on Instagram but I do not make a habit of the overlap, follow.

BLOGLOVIN

As part of my Spring cleaning, I am switching all of my favorite Blog reads
over to Bloglovin. Out with the old in with the new! Google Reader expires
this July, after all. Here are a few of my favorites that you should check out,
if you don't already happen to follow them. Each run by a super inspiring soul
with the courage to consistently keep it real:

Backyard Bill
A Desert Fete
Lune Blog

The Ricochet Waves Blog has been slow going as I have spread myself a little too thin over the last year.
So it goes. I am really looking forward to keeping a better visual diary in the many exciting months to come!
Thank You for sticking around.

The image above is a snapshot taken in Chicago, 2006. It was a time of total exploration, abandonment of rules and expectations. One of the most adventurous years of my life! Getting back to that state of mind and reminding myself not to let my world get so small...dancing around in turquoise socks too (though that never really stopped). xo

EASE ON DOWN THE ROAD

Last night: snuggles on the couch, gallons of tea and movies. Bill, the cat, was intensely into The Wiz- especially when Michael sang! We nodded off half way through but not before getting "Ease on Down the Road" stuck in our heads. Nice mantra to remember.
